Dresden Vase restoration ~ sculpting missing handle ~

Beautiful Pair of German Dresden Vases arrived in my studio without one  handle.

After new handle was sculpted and painted it's time for GOLD LEAF.
The gold comes in a  variety of karats which is a means of describing its purity, just as in jewelry making. The finest gold is 24 karat. Other metals are added to gold to impart subtle  color to the gold. Copper is added to create a reddish cast, silver to create white gold and the look of silver.  Gold leaf is available from 12-24 karats.

FRENCH and ITALIAN ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION

I had the pleasure of doing repair / restoration work on  :
Antique French hand painted and gilded BUREAU DE DAME depicting Napoleon and Josephine courting scene

and this Amazing Pietra Dura Marble Inlay Antique Table.

Antique Frame Repair : Cleaning, Repairing, Fabrication of missing pieces, Gilding

Re-creating the details on the frame is only half of the  process, great  attention is put into matching the finish on each frame ensuring the new finish blends with the old.

Gilding with pure gold leaf is a decorative process that consists in covering an object with a very fine layer of gold. Egyptian were the first to use gold for decoring and  to practice the millwork, two thousands years ago.

Collectible plate repair, restoration

Collectible plate  broken into many pieces.
I repaired and hand painted the plate with meticulous attention to  details.

Chintz china repair, Flow Blue China repair

Below are some examples of repairs of Chintz china  dish and Flow Blue cup.

Restoration is more than using an adhesive material to put a pieces together, it is the art of making it look as though it were never damaged.

CHINTZ JULIA pattern  by Royal Winton.

Flow blue was a type of transfer pottery produced by Staffordshire, England, potters beginning in about 1820. Flow blue was similar to traditional blue-and-white pottery, except that the blue color was deliberately blurred, an effect achieved by adding a cup of lime or ammonia to the kiln during glazing.

Meissen Vase 'Four Elements' restoration ~ Water ~

Meissen was the first factory in Europe to make ‘real’ or hard-paste porcelain and has remained the most significant European porcelain manufacturer to this day. The factory was founded in Dresden in 1710.
Meissen porcelain was once-fired, or green-fired. It was noted for its great resistance to thermal shock; a visitor to the factory at the time reported having seen a white-hot teapot being removed from the kiln and dropped into cold water without damage. Evidence to support this widely disbelieved story was given in the 1980s when the procedure was repeated in an experiment at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Below my repair on Meissen allegorical large vase from the 'Four Elements' series.

Inspired by Kändler models (1741-1747), modeled in relief and outlined in gilt, with generous spout, on oval pedestal base, the 'Water' vase with a marine scene with various vessels, applied with protruding rearing horses, a mermaid and sea monsters, the neck with Neptune, the algae and shell handle surmounted by a putti angels.
